Everything ended well, but only after a lot of cold sweats.

The pen is visually stunning, with all its metal parts boasting a warm, patinated gold colour. The Kodachi medium nib is extremely pleasant to use: it is comfortably wet, with a nice contrast between cross and down strokes, and provides the pencil-like feedback typical of Sailor nibs.
So why only three stars? Because straight out of the box, the nib was extremely scratchy — to the extent that paper fibre debris accumulated on the tip after writing just a few lines — and very dry, with the tines in close contact at their extremities.
This can sometimes happen with Sailor nibs, and I know how to try to resolve these issues from experience. However, I am by no means a trained nibmeister. I was fortunate that my empirical adjustments to the nib (enlarging the slit, smoothing the inner part of the tip, realigning the tines), impairing any kind of warranty, did not damage it and eventually solved the problem. But it should not have happened.
I can understand that, when grinding a nib, a nibmeister wants to preserve its original distinctive features. In this case, however, these features were actually flaws that should have been corrected during processing.
